VDC Research recently released a vendor landscape report for the Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) industry related to the impact and future of mobile barcodes. The report provided an overview and juxtaposition of five industry-leading data capture solution providers, including Manatee Works. The report notes that providers like Manatee Works seek to enable data capture via mobile devices for “their high availability, (perceived) low costs of ownership, ease of use, and user familiarity.” VDC Research rightly concluded that this trend toward data capture via consumer handhelds will require the incumbents to undertake a considerable strategic redesign with a view toward mobile scanning.
In addition, the report reviews Manatee Works’ current product portfolio, market position, and strategic direction. Highlights of their synopsis include:
- Recognition that the Manatee Works Barcode Scanner SDK offers scanning support for one of the broadest ranges of symbologies available with a focus on speed and performance. These are key differentiators;
- Affirmation of the importance of a solution designed with the developer community in mind;
- Confirmation that our strategic direction puts not only our business in a stronger position, but also our customers and stakeholders.
VDC’s report further emphasizes Manatee Works’ strong position in the industry, demonstrating particular enthusiasm for our expanded focus on the wearables market and augmented reality.
Richa Gupta, Senior Analyst for VDC Research mentions "Facilitating barcode scanning on or with mobile devices is a critical functionality requirement for enterprises today. VDC has identified Manatee Works along with four other participants in the mobile scanning market as vendors that we believe are taking the necessary steps toward building software-based platforms or hardware-enabled solution sets that are a viable threat to data capture industry leaders.”
We are happy to have VDC’s objective perspective and look forward to continuing to be a major driver of data capture innovation within the AIDC industry, developing and delivering advanced solutions to the marketplace.
